Sightseeing In Dubai

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Although a very small place, Dubai offers a lot of scope for sightseeing. Dubai has deeply rooted Islamic traditions but at the same time, has a life style similar in many ways to other parts of the world.

Jumeirah Mosque - The best known illustration of modern Islamic architecture. The mosque has two minarets and a splendid dome and is one of the most popular spots visited by tourists.

Sheikh Saeed’s House - The house is situated near the sea. It was built by the Sheikh for getting a better view of shipping activities. It is an exquisitely designed structure which exhibits traditional architecture.

Bastakiya - This is an old district which gives you an idea of how Dubai used to look before the skyscrapers started to take over. It has very narrow lanes and lofty wind towers. Here you can also find the Al Fahidi Fort, which is the biggest concentration of traditional courtyard houses with wind towers.

Dubai Museum - This is one the tallest buildings in Dubai and is in the Al Fahidi Fort. It was built in 1799, and was used as a palace, garrison and prison. But later in 1970, it was renovated as a museum. It is breath taking with full size figures, colors and sound and lighting effects. One can experience scenes from the creek, traditional houses, mosques, date gardens, and marine life. There is also the magnificent underwater world of pearl diving.

Wonderland - This is a family fun park covering around eighteen hectares. There are lots in store for you including water attractions, speed slides, surf hills, wave pools, twisters and a cruise.

Magic Planet - This one is for children. It is an indoor entertainment house which has ten-pin bowling alley, a bungle jungle, electronic games and a mini putt. It is in the Deira City Center.

Parks and Gardens - There are a lot of parks and gardens all over Dubai. You can enjoy some of the largest parks in Dubai like the Jumeirah Beach Park, Dubai Creekside Park, Mushrif Park, Al Mamzar Park, and Safa Park.

Dubai World Trade Center - It is a marvelous structure with thirty nine floors and it houses the regional headquarters of many international corporations. It has a state of the art conference center and seven exhibition halls. By paying a small fee, you can have a fantastic view of the city from its viewing gallery.

Dubai City - Deira and Bur Dubai - the two parts of the Central Business District. They are connected by a tunnel and two bridges. They have all the necessities of an ultra modern city.

The Creek - a natural sea-water inlet goes through the center of the city. You will enjoy the creek most if you go across it by abra, an old traditional dhow, which goes across Deira to Bur Dubai.

Al Boom Tourist Village - Very close to the Creek Park is the Al Boom Tourist Village which has a banquet hall, a coffee shop, amusement park, ornamental lake and a marina with five cruise boats.

Bait Al Wakeel - This was built by Sheikh Rashid in 1934. It was an office building at that time but now it has been turned in to a museum devoted to fishing and maritime traditions.

In this article we have given you just a small taste of the types of things you can see and do in Dubai. However, there is much much more to this fantastic city. Martial Arts Book Review: Freedom from Fear by Peyton Quinn

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Being the author of several books on the martial arts and fighting, I am always looking for books of exceptional quality to add to my library. If I have a book in my library, it’s definitely worth owning. One such book is Peyton Quinn’s, “Freedom From Fear.”

Peyton starts the introduction of his book off by asking you the following simple and direct question, “What are you really after in life?” This question must be answered honestly and after great deliberation in order for it to have the desired effect. If this book could be summed up in one simple all encompassing statement, it would have to be this, “Don’t allow fear to run your life.”

The first chapter, entitled, “The Frog Brain and the Self-Image” Peyton covers numerous psychological areas such as;

1. A persons various reactions to fear are pretty much the same, regardless of the situation.
2. Adrenal stress and the role it plays when confronted by fear.
3. Irrational vs. Rational Fear.
4. Bullies and how they are basically the same regardless of the environment they are in.
5. Our basic survival instincts.
6. By our very nature, we are all salesman to certain degree.
7. Our emotional responses.

“Mind Controls Body” is the next chapter and deals with the effects our mind has on our physical well being. This chapter covers such areas as;

1. Pre-conditioned responses.
2. A very unique reading test on page #68.
3. Negative self-image.
4. Our basic need for approval from others.
5. Perfectionism.
6. A fascinating and very educational armed robbery story involving the author.

This next to last chapter is mental icing on the cake so to speak. In this chapter, “Power of Mind Over Health,” Peyton explains how the power of the mind has a great deal of bearing on the health of the body as a whole. Some of the subjects covered in this section are;

1. Pre-conceived notions.
2. Various types of stress.
3. The effects of stress on the mind and body.

Peyton concludes this book with a chapter on the effects of drug, alcohol, and tobacco addiction. This chapter I found surprisingly good and very insightful.

As much as I wanted to do a detailed review on this book, I found that in good conscious I couldn’t. Not that this wasn’t a terrific book, but I just felt that this was one of those books where the individual person needed to purchase it and read it with the knowledge that if they did just that, that this book had the potential to make a tremendous positive impact on their lives. What I did was merely provide you with a brief overview, rather than an actual review. The best thing I can say is this, “If you are reading this, STOP right now and order this book and read it several times. It will impact your life in a positive way.”

You have to take a very long and deep look into whom and what you really are if you ever want to change. Peyton can be reached via his web site at: http://www.rmcat.com

About French And Belgian Comics

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Comics And Comic Books - France and Belgium are two countries with a long history of comics and comic books. They are called Bande Dessinée in French. Belgian comic books on the other hand were first printed in Dutch are greatly influenced by Francophone comics, but still have their very unique style.

La bande dessinée comes from the sentence: art form as drawn strips which is literally translated as the drawn strip. It’s English equivalent, the word “bande” can be both film and comics. It’s not insignificant the French term comic contains no indication of subject matter, unlike the American term “comic,” which implies a form of art not to be taken seriously.

For more information on comics visit:

Relative to the size of their populations, the innumerable authors that are in France and Belgium publish a vary high number of Franco-Belgian comics. In North America, the Franco-Belgian comics are a lot more serious and are often seen to be graphic novels.

In France, comics are mostly published at the behest of the author, working in a self-appointed time frame. It’s not uncommon for readers to wait as long as six months or two years between installments. In those countries comic books are first published as with hard covers, and typically with 48 or 64 pages.

Personally I would not want to wait that long for a comic book to see how the story will end. As a typical American I want it now, even my laughs.

Cooking: The Definitive Art Form

Friday, May 16th, 2008

There is an age old saying - ‘The Way To A Man’s Heart Is through His Stomach”. Well, let it be known, that the way to everyone’s heart is through his/her stomach, both figuratively and literally. To achieve this extraordinary feat all you have to be is a good cook. But, herein lays a difficulty. Cooking is not everyone’s cup of tea, and people have to fine tune their culinary skills over the years to have any semblance of mastery over this art form.

Good cooking takes you to heaven or any place that you call heaven for that matter. So what exactly is ‘cooking’? Something so important has a very simple meaning. It is the time worn process of preparing food. The phrase ‘cooking’ also includes the act of ‘eating’. While cooking a person has to keep in mind a whole lot of factors that would finally lead to the making of some delicious food. Namely, there are three things that must be kept in mind while cooking: the mixture of the ingredients used, and the inherent digestibility of the food.

A good cook must be an ace at selection, measurement, and the combination of the requisite ingredients that would achieve a culinary accomplishment. Diversity is another significant feature of this age old art form. It reflects the varied considerations that include, amongst others, nutrition, aesthetics, agrarian features of a region, ethnicity, and religion. Food is cooked in a number of different ways. You can boil it, fry it, grill it or use any other methodology for the purposes of heating.

The paramount importance that cooking has in our life can be gauged from the fact that we spend close to 6 hours daily, just eating. This of course is a minimum estimate. Regional cooking and gourmet cooking is fast gaining in the popularity charts. More and more people are succumbing to the cooking bug simply because there is a lot of money in it. Nobody likes to stay hungry, and everybody likes good food. Cooking was first a necessity, and now it has achieved a status far greater than anybody supposed it would.

For the purposes of cooking, you need some good cookware. Cookware is containers, which are used to keep the food preparations. The development in cooking has led to development in cookware. Today, you have a myriad of cookware to suit the requirements of specific dishes.

To conclude, cooking is something that cannot be learnt. Like art, the qualities of a cook must be ingrained in a person. But, that does not mean that you cannot learn a few scrumptous dishes. So go give it a try, and yes, don’t forget to use some apt cookware!

How To Host The Perfect Cocktail Party

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

A popular thing to do nowadays is to host cocktail parties. These are a great way for people to get together and talk while having a nice formal atmosphere. The following will explain how to host a cocktail party that will be talked about around the office for weeks.

The most important thing for any cocktail party is the drinks. These should range from alcoholic drinks to non-alcoholic and mixers drinks. Consider stocking the following drink types:

- Good white and red wines with some champagne.

- Gin, scotch, whiskey, vodka, bourbon, and sometime rum (depending on climate conditions).

- Draft beer and some foreign beer are always appreciated.

- Mixers such as juices, coke, ginger ale, and club soda. Also, serve some bottled water and sparkling water.

Make sure you have all the correct glasses for the different drinks. Being able to present each drink in the right setting and glass is very important for a successful cocktail party.

Another important thing to consider is keeping some fresh fruit around for the drinks. A lot of people enjoy having a lemon or lime wedge with their drinks and will greatly appreciate it if it’s provided.

Hors d’oeuvres are good to have with any party. Besides the specialized dishes you should consider some general plates. These include:

- A good fruit plate with fresh fruit is great to have on the table. When you do these go ahead and cut up apples, pears, and those types of fruits so that people won’t have to do it themselves.

- Crackers, cheese, and meat can be put together on one plate. Be sure to stock a few different brands of meats and cheeses to provide some flavor and character to the plate.

- A vegetable plate with ranch dip is a cheap and great addition to any Hors d’oeuvres table.

While you can host a cocktail party on the spur of the moment it’s recommended that you send people a hand written invitation. This makes them feel good about being invited and will help entice them to come. Remember, make sure to add a RSVP on the note so that you can figure out who is coming and who isn’t.

Quick Mortgage Tips for Home Loans, Equity Loans, Reverse Loans, Cash-Out Loans and Refinance Loans

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

If you’re considering a mortgage loan, you might be wondering what options are available. Today, there are many options besides the conventional methods of obtaining a mortgage. Whether you’re applying for a home loan for a new home, a refinance loan, an equity loan, a HELOC, or a reverse loan, you should be aware of what each loan entails.

Buying a New Home

When buying a new home, you’ll need to be approved for a new home loan through a lender, or ask the seller to finance the home for you. Before applying at a lending institution, research your options. Determine how much “house” you can afford. Use online mortgage payment calculators to figure what the payments would be for different home loan amounts. Then, you’ll know what price range you can shop within, and whether or not you can afford the payments. Remember, your income/debt ratio must fit within the lender’s guidelines to qualify for a conventional loan.

Healthy and “Not-so-healthy” Credit Scores

If you have an excellent credit score, then your income/debt ratio along with the investment capital you have available will be the main factors in determining home loan availability. However, if there are flaws in your credit history due to non-payment or repossession, you will be limited in the type of home loan you can obtain. But don’t lose heart. Many homebuyers whose credit is “not-so-great” do qualify for non-prime loans. Non-prime loans can be a bit higher-priced than prime loans or have higher interest, but you might still be able to buy your dream home!

Creative Financing

Don’t settle for conventional loans if you don’t have to. There are many creative ways to finance a new home loan. If you do not have the needed investment capital or a down payment, some lenders will finance the down payment for you as well as the closing costs. If not, the seller might be willing to finance part of the loan to cover these costs. This can work even if the seller doesn’t have extra “money to lend!”

Explain to the seller that it could be advantageous to him because of income taxes. He might much rather claim an income of $100,000 than $120,000! Spreading out payments for $20,000 of the loan amount over a period of five or ten years could make a huge difference on his taxes due for that year. Consult with an accountant to find out if this could work in your situation.

Unusual Types of Home Loans

If you’re worried about budgeting with a new home loan payment each month, try a FlexPay loan where several monthly payment options are available to you every month. These options include interest only payments, full-amortized payments, and minimum payments. There are also bi-weekly mortgages for paying more toward your premium each year through a bi-weekly payment schedule.

Hard Money loans are also available when there is a large amount of equity built up in a home. The loan approval is based more on the home or property’s value than the borrower’s credit history or job/salary history.

Refinance Loans

If you plan to refinance your home, there are several options. A refinance means you are re-evaluating the terms, payments and interest of your loan. You might refinance to simply get the interest rate or payment lowered. Or, you might want to keep a little cash out for yourself as well. This is called “Cash-out” refinancing. Cash-out loans are made when you want to refinance your home for more than is owed on it. For instance, you owe $60,000, but want to refinance for $80,000. You’ll pocket the additional $20,000 to use for home repairs, remodeling or whatever else!

Reverse loans are available for those over 62 years of age who own their home free and clear or have much equity built into it. They can receive a monthly payment, a lump sum or a line of credit. This does not have to be repaid until the borrower moves or passes away. Then, the estate can be sold to pay the note.

Another option for leveraging your home equity is to create a HELOC (home equity line of credit) that is secured by the equity in your home. HELOCs can be used to pay debts, make purchases, or anything else. Be aware, however, that the interest rate can fluctuate monthly.

Now that you are armed with many options for obtaining a home loan or refinancing your mortgage, check with an online lender to find out what plan will work best for you. Use the available tools and calculators to do some budgeting on your own as well. You’ll be moving in that new dream home in no time!
