How to open a small business without losing your shirt

星期二, 04月 15th, 2008

We might also add that dealing with a large corporation does not necessarily mean you’re getting correct information

Example: In a recent Yahoo answers listing a visitor asked: “I’m thinking about starting a small business in California, where do I get all the necessary filing papers and other information?” The accepted answer was: “Contact the Secretary of Sate, they will give you everything necessary to start your business.”

On the other hand we stumbled upon Blogskinny who told us that they personally research each submitted article, website, blog, etc. Sounds like an advertising relay rather than a fact. So we submitted an article. The response came back that our contact link was incorrect, there was an extra “w” typed after the com in our address.

This could only have been detected by a person reading our information. Since our aim in life is to help others we felt free to submit information that has helped many of our visitors. We would hope that some of you would read our article but if you have a busy schedule this is the information you need.

The largest business contributors to the US economy are not the fortune five hundred corporations as you may think rather small business’ a surprising statistic.

Long articles are boring so we tried to keep this brief. I mention this because Las Vegas Business start-ups are multiplying faster than anywhere else in the USA; and this high volume agency is outstanding.
Not only will you learn what to do to start your business they will also tell you how and where to get the funding as well as supply all necessary information for you to become a pro almost overnight.
Starting information is available at our website: http://www.dlvmagazine.com.
The SBA has this information for every state and US Possession as well as foreign information. Forget number two and three, the SBA has it all.

Good Luck

* Sometimes, your search terms may be far off from one another on a web page. To ensure your terms appear together in a phrase, put them in double quotations, like this: “internet marketing strategies”. * If you are looking for a word definition, Google has a tool for you. Just type: ‘define: widget’ to get a definition of the word from online dictionaries and glossaries.

How To Evaluate Website Performance

星期四, 04月 10th, 2008

Setting up a website is the very first step of an Internet marketing campaign, and the success or failure of your site depends greatly on how specifically you have defined your website goals. If you don’t know what you want your site to accomplish, it will most likely fail to accomplish anything. Without goals to guide you in developing and monitoring your website, all your site will be is an online announcement that you are in business.

If you expect your site to stimulate some form of action, whether it is visitors filling out a form so a representative can contact them, or purchasing a product, there are steps you can take to insure that your website is functioning at peak efficiency. One of the first indicators of how well your site is working for you is finding out the number of visitors in a given period of time. A good baseline measurement is a month in which you haven’t been doing any unusual offline promotional activities.

However, just because hoards of people have passed through your gates does not mean your site is successful. Usually, you want those visitors to actually do something there. It is equally important to monitor the number of visitors to your site who made a purchase. This figure is called the site conversion rate, and it is an essential element of the efficacy of your website.

To find the site conversion rate, take the number of visitors per month and figure out the percentage of them that actually performed the action your site is set up for. For example, if you had 2,000 hits to your site, but only 25 of them purchased your product, your site conversion rate equals 1.25%. To get this figure, take your number of visitors and divide that figure by the number of visitors who made a purchase. Then divide that result by 100 (25 ?00 X 100).

If your website is set-up to get visitors to fill out a form, make sure to then figure out what the difference is between your site conversion rate and your sales conversion rate. This is because not everyone who fills out your form will actually become your customer. However, whether your site is set-up to sell a service or product, or to get the visitor to fill out a form, the site conversion rate will measure the success or failure of your website whenever you make changes to the site.

You may find that you need to implement some additional marketing strategies if you find that traffic to your site is extremely low. There are several effective methods to improve the flow of traffic to your website, particularly launching a search engine optimization campaign. This campaign is targeted at increasing your position in search engine results so that consumers can find your pages faster and easier. You can either research the steps you need to take to improve your search engine rankings, or employ a search engine optimization company to do the work for you. In either case, after your have improved your search engine positions, make sure you keep on top of them by regular monitoring and adjusting of your efforts to maintain high positions.

Another factor to examine is how easy it is for a visitor to your website to accomplish the action the site is set-up for. For example, if your goal is for the visitor to fill out a form, is this form easily accessible, or does the visitor have to go through four levels to get to it? If it’s too difficult to get to, the customer may just throw in the towel and move on to another site. Make sure your buttons are highly visible, and the path to your form or ordering page quickly accessible.

Finally, have a professional evaluate the copy on your website. The goal is, of course, to get your visitor to make a purchase or fill out your form. Website copy must be specifically geared to your online campaign and not just a cut and paste job from your company brochure. The right copy can make the difference between profit and loss in your online campaign.

Laugh it up! The Top 4 Checks to Adding Humour to Speeches and Presentations

星期四, 04月 10th, 2008

If you are able to use humour in a speech or presentation you will automatically be able to make your audience listen to you and assert your authority. Making people laugh is a definite attention-getter.

The thing to be aware of is using humour appropriately in your speech or presentation. There are two ways to use humour: the first is to react to material that you already have written using your own sense of humour. The second way is to add appropriate jokes, quotes and stories that relate to your speech topic.

Whichever method you use you need to run through the following checklist before you speak:

1) Is it funny? If you find a line genuinely funny then it will make things a lot easier when you come to deliver the humour to your listeners. The thing to be aware of though is that not every line will make you fall down with laughter. If you have trouble in this area it might be worth researching a quip or humorous line from another speaker of comedian and quoting them in your speech. You cannot pass the line off as your own. If you have to give them credit!

2) Can you say the line comfortably? If you find a joke that fits in with the material rehearse the line out loud and edit it so that you’re comfortable saying the joke. Make elisions if necessary turning “you are” into “you’re” and so on. Make sure you don’t leave out the punchline though, that bit is crucial.

3) Will you offend anybody? This following may sound stuffy, but the best thing to do is avoid the following areas because not everybody can appreciate humorous lines. Avoid jokes on: religion, sex, physical appearance, politics and disabilities. Granted someone who is jewish can deliver jewish jokes, but even then not everyone in the audience could be jewish so you could come across as racist. The best thing to do is poke fun at yourself. If in doubt, leave it out!

4) Will you be understood? If you’re speaking to a room full of unfamiliar faces then you have to make sure that jokes that are specific to your job or company might not go over. In that situation make sure that there are no in-jokes, or lines based in specifics of your job title.

If the humorous lines that you find are able to pass these four checks then you are well on your way to having an engaging and memorable speech!

Top 5 Tips To Developing Effective Presentation Skills

星期二, 04月 8th, 2008

I decided to come up with some tips that might help people develop effective presentation skills. Here’s my Top 5 Tips to prevent your knees knocking when you have to get up and give a great presentation.

1) Know you subject. Sounds obvious, but bear with me. Everyone in your department may know the subject as well as you do, but that doesn’t stop you from finding a fresh spin on the topic. Instead of giving a dull, emotionless statistics why not try finding a vivid, imaged-filled comparison? Example, instead of telling us how many miles it is from the Earth to the Moon you could tell your listeners how many buses would stretch end to end.

Also, what point are you making with your presentation? you can’t just talk and talk at length showing them slide after slide of text until your time is up. Get clear opn what message you want to convey to your listeners. Then everything that you say and show them has to be connected to your main message, if it’s not it’s gone!

And please - don’t clutter your slides up with mountains of text. Have clear succinct bullet points that encapsulate what it is you want to present. Then tell them the rest. You should be expanding upon the ideas in your bullet points and delivering them with all your panache, not mindlessly reading them off the screen.

2) Structuring. Just like a good novel or film your presentation needs a beginning, a middle and an end. If it will help you can use the old reliable “tell ‘em format”:

“tell ‘em what you’re going to tell ‘em, tell ‘em and tell ‘em what you told ‘em”.

Try your best to provide your listeners with new information or put a new interpretation on existing information. Remember, what you want to give them is great content not soulles spin!

3) Relevancy. Keep asking yourself is what your presenting relevant to your main message and relevant to your listeners? If it isn’t then bin it and gind something that is. I’ve been in the audience listening to a presenter thinking “how is this relevant to me?” And I never found out. I never found out because it wasn’t relevant to me.

4) Enthusiasm. Try to let your enthusiasm for your subject come through without being too over-the-top and evangelical. If you’re not passionate and enthused by your subject why should we be?

5) Practise. Practise, practise and practise some more! You can hope to give a great presentation if you don’t go over it before-hand. In order to nail it and win over your listeners you need to know the presentation better than the back of your hand. Make sure you know whow the equipment works and what to do if there are any technical problems. Don’t just rely on the temp who may or may not be able to help you out.

In the beginning, the most important step you need to take when starting an online home income business is to plot out an idea and start-up plan. Try and select a short, catchy, easy to remember domain name.

You will want to look at how reliable each web host is, how often customers encounter problems and how quickly the web host is at resolving these problems.

As soon as your online home income business website with your domain name is up and running, that you begin marketing immediately. Too many people delay this all important fourth step and run into the problem of waiting to market until the website is further developed. The problem with this is that you will constantly be adding to and furthering your website. By postponing the release of your website you are only delaying any potential business you could be getting.

Return customers can be extremely beneficial toward getting your online home income business off on the right foot. They can bring you more business, give you a testimonial to put on the site, and recommend you to friends of theirs or others online. Therefore, customer service should be of utmost importance to your business.

What’s Next in Price Comparison Shopping? Meta-Shopping Sites

星期一, 04月 7th, 2008

When you shop in a brick and mortar store, I’m sure you do price comparison shopping informally. I know I do. Standing in the Walmart or Target, there are usually between two to five choices for everything. This is why I can never get out of the store in less than an hour. Think about the shopping behavior. You stand there, looking at the different options and try to make the best purchase decision. One major factor in your decision process is price. So, you are doing price comparison shopping informally in your head.

The Internet allows you to do price comparison shopping from your living room more formally by comparing prices side-by-side on a web site. I think this is a truly amazing convenience. Here, technology is really an advantage for the consumer. With the Internet bringing the data from thousands of merchants together in one place, a buyer can do price comparison shopping on a scale never before attainable. This is what economists call “perfect price information.” With the high reliability of shipping, there is really no need to visit the physical store either. You can compare, select, and purchase the product entirely through your computer. The only time when a store visit is required is for larger items or those items that you simply must see before purchasing. Large TVs, jewelry and cars are examples of items I would not buy without seeing first. However, in every case, I complete a thorough price comparison exercise on the Internet first. I usually print the output from the price comparison shopping site and take that with me to the store or dealer as a reference tool.

There has been a more recent trend in price comparison shopping web sites that offers even more choices to the buyer. Each of the major price comparison shopping engines have traditionally been trying to bring Internet users to their sites through direct advertising. However, in the last few years these businesses have been opening up their databases for smaller sites to program automatic data exchanges with them. This is know as an application programmer interface (”API”). In layman’s terms, it means that two web sites communicate with each other to exchange data based on user input. For example, if a user on my site is asking for books on the topic of price comparison shopping, my site can send the data to Amazon and the resulting products can be represented on my site, back to the user who requested it.

The end-user doesn’t know that the data came from a different site, and it all happens in a matter of milliseconds. The price comparison shopping sites are using this as a distribution mechanism to help grow their businesses. If you’ve ever wondered why Amazon products are everywhere on the Internet and not just on their site, this is why. Amazon.com has been a leader in API development, which has helped them place their products on thousands of sites on the Internet. The big advantage to end-users is that a new breed of price comparison shopping sites are emerging. Specifically, meta-shopping sites can be built that actually pull from many different comparison shopping site databases at once using these API’s. Think of a site that merges the power of the Amazon, Shopping.com, PriceRunner and eBay product databases all with one click. This is a real win for the shopper and saves time for the buyer. End-users are now able to get product information at a level that was not possible even a few years ago.

In summary, I love the price comparison shopping approach. I think it’s a big win for consumers. And with the emergence of meta-shopping sites like this:

Price comparison shopping engine at Compare4.us

With the help of new APIs, several major databases are queried in a matter of milliseconds based on end-user search criteria. Product price and consumer review information is automatically pulled from many of the leading product databases to give the buyer the best from millions of prices, pictures and reviews.
