Are you sick of the stories about people making mad money on ebay? I know I am. I for one didn’t believe it. So I thought I should dig into it some more. It’s all about the planning and how much effort you are willing to put into it.

There are millions of buyers and sellers on Ebay and even more articles out there on how to generate an income through Ebay. I am going to break it down for those of you just starting out, if you are an Ebay seller already, maybe I can give you some tips to try that you may not have heard about before.

Initially, you will need to get a game plan together. What are you going to sell? Where will you get it? Will you make the items you sell? Will you be able to keep up with demand for these items? New or Used? To get the ball rolling, do some research on the items you are intending to sell or similar items if you are selling antiques, rare finds or handmade items. What are these items going for on Ebay and other auction sites? What is the demand like? Are there a lot of people bidding on these items? Are there any items you would like to sell that are not even listed on Ebay or are listed in small quantities?(This could be a great niche market you have stumbled onto)

After you have decided on the items you are interested in selling, start looking for them. The first place you should look is Ebay. I know that sounds ridiculous to buy things on Ebay only to resell them, but this is a method proven by many to be profitable. You can search for the items you are interested in selling and then search again misspelling some or all of the words, you will be amazed how many people misspell their listings. These misspelled listing are less likely to attract buyers and browsers and therefore will have few to no bids. This equals bargain for you.

Also, search for auctions closing at odd times, the wee hours of the morning or the middle of the night-these are not “high traffic” times and can lead you to some steals.

Another way of finding items to sell on Ebay is to shop estate and yard sales, rummage sales, and storage unit sales. You can also check classified ads and your own attic. These can be great treasure troves if you are selling quality used items.

If your direction is toward new items. You need to find suppliers. Find the suppliers that are in the closest possible position to the manufacturer as possible. This will mean price competitiveness. And you need that badly.

If have already found your distributor, you need to do your research again and again. Don’t just sit there thinking you have the best product price. That’s when someone will knock you out of business.

Whatever avenue you choose to obtain your goods to sell, you will still need to do your homework and become an expert on whatever it is you are selling. You will need to be able to spot a good deal that can turn into profit for you and you will need to keep up with your customer and general consumer interest. You want to make sure that there is a market out there for whatever it is you are selling.

You want your eBay store name to be something easy to understand and to remember. You want your customers to also have an idea of what you are selling just by looking at your user name. Your name should be somewhat relevant to your merchandise, so if you sell antiques, your user name could be Antique Lady. Ebay does charge small fees for listing and selling, but they are small enough that you will not mind them once you start your selling.

Set some goals. After you start to see some profits, set some goals for yourself. How much are you wanting to earn each month or year? If you want to earn say, 500$ a month and your average items are selling for 25$ each, you will need to sell 20 items a month. Can you keep up with that, will you be able to continue finding those items, etc.

The real money makers are the listings themselves. Take care when creating your listings, make them clear and easy to understand. Include pictures of your items, people are much more likely to buy an item they can see. Spell everything correctly, so people can find your listings when they search Ebay.

Maintain your “Feedback Score”, this is important because you want buyers to trust you and to keep coming back for more. Make sure you handle all questions and emails you get from buyers and potential buyers, ship items in a timely fashion, keep up contacts with previous buyers…You want to do anything it takes to keep that score high. With all the hype around me every day about just how easy it is to jump online and make big bucks, I wanted to write today about the truth. The truth is that many businesses fail. They don’t make any money online. Here are a couple of the leading causes of death.

The product creators then proceed to show their screen-captured checks on their sales pages. Well, nothing wrong with them. These type of packages are like the “Greatest Hits” albums which contain nothing but THE BEST. They contain the exact historical accounts of what successful Internet Marketers did that gave them the ‘big break’. If you just follow and copy what they did, you will be successful…

So is this approach going to work? I’m not sure. It seems like you have to be more creative than that. Let’s not say you are copying Donald Trump… You can’t even copy your classmate! You can model after Donald Trump, but ultimately you can only be YOU! It is only your own chicken nature that demands your fullest self-expression in order to be alive, especially for a netrepreneur!

I really salute you if you can copy 100% someone else’s methodology, but most of us can’t. Step-by-step systems can only be as relevant as they can inspire you with sheer confidence and into massive action. So how do you begin to appreciate step-by-step business systems?

There are only 3 things you MUST learn to look out for when studying these instructional. Just don’t read them like novels; scan through the pages quickly!

1) Any specific stages or processes in the Internet Marketers’ work that you know you can do well immediately.

2) Resource links…admit it, take away the black words and it’s just a book with hyperlinks slapped in it. Nothing wrong with that In fact, these alone are worth the investment.

3) The way they write. The instructional-style demands the writer to not only be short, simple and straightforward, but more importantly, make sure readers do not think too much and too hard.

So there you have it. Now you can go write your own system. But keep in mind, it’s the deep understanding of what the system accomplishes and why that’s important.

Unfortunately, the Internet is populated by bands of dishonest webmasters seeking to improve their link popularity by faking out search engines.

The good news is that search engines have figured this out, and are now on guard for “spam” pages and sites that have increased their rankings by artificial methods. When a search engines tracks down such a site, that site is demoted in ranking or completely removed from the search engine’s index.

Link popularity is mostly based on the quality of sites you are linked to. Google pioneered this criteria for assigning website ranking, and virtually all search engines on the Internet now use it. There are legitimate ways to go about increasing your link popularity, but at the same time, you must be scrupulously careful about which sites you choose to link to. Google frequently imposes penalties on sites that have linked to other sites solely for the purpose of artificially boosting their link popularity. They have actually labeled these links “bad neighborhoods.”

You can raise a toast to the fact that you cannot be penalized when a bad neighborhood links to your site; penalty happens only when you are the one sending out the link to a bad neighborhood. But you must check, and double-check, all the links that are active on your links page to make sure you haven’t linked to a bad neighborhood.

Do not link to any site that shows no green at all on the scale. This is especially important when the scale is completely gray. It is more than likely that these pages have been penalized. If you are linked to these pages, you may catch their penalty, and like the flu, it may be difficult to recover from the infection.

There is no need to be afraid of linking to sites whose scale shows only a tiny sliver of green on their scale. These sites have not been penalized, and their links may grow in value and popularity. Some webmasters have gotten around this formula by hiding their keywords in such a way so that they are invisible to any visitors to their site. For example, they have used the keywords but made them the same color as the background color of the page, such as a plethora of white keywords on a white background. You cannot see these words with the human eye - but the eye of search engine spider can spot them easily! A spider is the program search engines use to index web pages, and when it sees these invisible words, it goes back and boosts that page’s link ranking.

Webmasters may be brilliant and sometimes devious, but search engines have figured these tricks out. As soon as a search engine perceive the use of hidden text - splat! The page is penalized.

The downside of this is that sometimes the spider is a bit overzealous and will penalize a page by mistake. For example, if the background color of your page is gray, and you have placed gray text inside a black box, the spider will only take note of the gray text and assume you are employing hidden text. To avoid any risk of false penalty, simply direct your webmaster not to assign the same color to text as the background color of the page - ever!

This ratio is quite high, so it is difficult to surpass without sounding as if you are stuttering - unless your keyword is part of your company name. If this is the case, it is easy for keyword density to soar. So, if your keyword is “renters insurance,” be sure you don’t use this phrase in every sentence. Carefully edit the text on your site so that the copy flows naturally and the keyword is not repeated incessantly. A good rule of thumb is your keyword should never appear in more than half the sentences on the page.

It is natural that search engines have responded to this act of deception with extreme enmity, imposing steep penalties on these sites. The problem on your end is that sometimes pages are cloaked for legitimate reasons, such as prevention against the theft of code, often referred to as “pagejacking”. This kind of shielding is unnecessary these days due to the use of off-page elements, such as link popularity, that cannot be stolen. Go

Just as you must be diligent in increasing your link popularity and your ranking, you must be equally diligent to avoid being unfairly penalized. So be sure to monitor your site closely and avoid any appearance of artificially boosting your rankings.
